Dog collar- proper fit

I'm finding more and more each day I work with dogs that their owners have the collars way too loose. To ensure proper fit- 2 finger width (side by side) should easily slide between the collar and your dog's neck. If your dog's collar is too loose, you run the risk of it slipping over and off it's head resulting in a loose dog! Also, with a loose collar you have less control when handling your dog by it's collar. When their is slack, the response time of you lightly tugging (subtle correction) is greater; therefore, your dog gets the message later. Timing and anticipation are everything in dog training and our well-timed, subtle corrections need to be close to exact. Dog's senses are so much more advanced than ours so cutting response time in delivering a message is critical in your dog's learning curve.
