Annoying behaviors are a way of life for our dogs. Often times it is to gain our attention. No it's not because they know it will annoy us, rather there behavior is reinforced by our attention. For example, if your dog incessantly barks to get something or at least your attention,
you could choose to ignore which eventually extinguishes the behavior-Extinction.
But what I really want to relate in this topic is what ignoring a dog means for you. What are its requirements? 1) No eye contact-no peeks
2) No talking to your dog nor around him 3) No handling 4) No physical contact. If she makes physical contact such as leaning on you or lying with a paw over your foot-not allowed. I like to tell my clients they must "blow their dog off". Believe me that a dog will do whatever it can to get the reward of your attention which includes all of the above and more. If you choose to ignore there is absolutely no wiggle room. Be firm-period.
